Workshop May 12th: “5 Strategies for Inner Peace”

Stress Reduction Workshop with David Raphael Mon, May 12th, 2014, 7pm – 9pm. Vancouver, West End Register Here Learn how to calm your mind, be happier, healthier and have more energy! •    Why is it that I persist in the same behaviours – even though I want to change? •    How can I keep from getting de-railed by the stresses of my life? •    What does it take to become the person I always wanted to be – and live my best life? It’s All in Your Mind Wouldn’t it be great if you could retrain your brain for calm and focus, so that you could achieve the success you want, in any area of life that matters to you? A key aspect to this is moving out of your active Beta brain state and into a more relaxed Alpha brain state… and even into a super-chillaxed Theta brain state.  This induces what scientists call the Relaxation Response, which is the opposite of our normal “Fight or Flight” response. In short, it’s a very wise idea to spend some quality time in the Alpha state every day… You don’t need any fancy machines to do this; you can shift your brain state quickly and easily, on your own, once you have the strategies that work. Join David Raphael for this inspiring, interactive workshop and learn tried-and-true techniques to de-stress your body, calm your mind and create more loving, harmonious relationships. “5 Strategies for Inner Peace” Monday, May 12th, 2014, 7:30 pm – 9:00 pm Location: David Raphael’s Home Address:  Suite #1, 1019 Gilford St (btwn. 20 Awesome Affirmations

Powerfully worded affirmations allow YOU to set the tone for your day, rather than outside circumstances like the burnt toast, the not-so-good news on the radio or the traffic jam on your way to work. I suggest choosing 3 affirmations from the list below each morning.  Then repeat them to yourself several times as you go through your day.  As a reminder, it’s a good idea to write them on sticky papers and place them in key locations like the bathroom mirror or on your computer. I can choose peace instead of this. I am full of health, energy and vitality. My body is thriving. I am bigger than any obstacle. There is time enough for all important things. I know what to do and I am doing it. I go with the flow. I am strong and resilient. I am the action of love in the world. I get everything handled. This is a universe of infinite possibilities. I am creating love and support in my life. This too shall pass. I am naturally abundant. I choose healthy relationships. My Soulmate is on their way. My thoughts create my reality. Today I choose joy. I am making healthy choices. I breathe in...

Blog: What’s Your Superpower?

Now that the winners have been awarded their medals, the torch extinguished and the athletes have returned to their home countries, what are we left with from the 30th Olympic Games? The heroic accomplishments of swimmer Michael Phelps; the triumph of Oscar Pistorius, a.k.a. the “The Blade Runner”;  the dramatic breakthrough bronze medal of the Canadian Women’s Soccer Team… Each of these is an example of the extraordinary achievements that are possible for human beings when we hold a bold and inspiring vision for our life. You are gifted with the same ” superpower” these Olympic athletes have for creating what you really want in life.  The only difference between us “regular folks” and them is that they have a strategy for success, one that they have practised over and over again to the point of mastery:  Visualization. You, too, can make your dreams happen in reality when you know the steps to visualizing your goals. Here are The 5 Basic Steps to Visualization: Relax – Imagine – Feel – Believe – Let Go. Step 1:  Relax. Find a quiet, comfortable seat, breathe deeply and steadily.  Empty your mind and relax your body from head to toe.  Focus again on your breath for a few moments, the rise and fall of your chest, and allow yourself to come into the present moment. Step 2:  Imagine. Now, think about what it is you want.  A knock-your-socks off relationship;  a new home where you can live, love and thrive;  satisfaction and happiness in your career;  a holiday in a tropical paradise…  Don’t be afraid to think bigger and in more detail than...

Blog: If You Can See It & Believe It – You Can Achieve It!

Watching the 2012 London Summer Olympics we’ve been inspired – and stunned – by the precision performances of the athletes.  16-year-old gymnast Gaby Douglas jumping, tumbling, flying and twirling her way to the women’s gold.  Michael Phelps breaking world swimming records by fractions of a second again and again! We sit in front of our tv’s wondering, How do they do it? Apart from their extraordinary level of commitment to their sport and rigorous practice, what is these athletes’ secret to success? After the Beijing Olympics in 2008, Michael Phelps said in an interview, “Nothing is impossible. With so many people saying it couldn’t be done, all it takes is an imagination, and that’s something I learned and something that helped me.” He was speaking, of course, about the power of visualization. I first heard about this technique back in the ’80’s when a friend recommended I read Shakti Gawain’s “Creative Visualization”. This classic little book (I love thin books packed with good ideas!) taught me how to use my imagination to create mental images of what I wanted in life… and it really worked! Oprah agrees.  She says, “I do believe, and I have seen in my own life, that Creative Visualization works.” But creative visualization isn’t only for Olympians, celebrities and certain other “special people.”  Anyone can learn and master this tool once you have the know-how. It’s really very simple: First you imagine in your mind’s eye what your dreams and goals are, in any area of life that’s important to you:  health, relationship, career, finances, creativity, etc. Next, you use the energy of your emotions...

Blog: Why People Don’t Heal

How is it that people can have back pain, or depression, or even cancer, for years, and not heal? Caroline Myss, in her book, Why People Don’t Heal, maintains that most people do not use their precious life-force energy efficiently.  Instead they squander it! She suggests that the average person uses 60% – 70% of their energy simply to manage the negative experiences of their childhood, adolescence and early adulthood, as well as to hold on to the losses, disappointments and resentments of the past.  Another 10% is used up worrying about, planning for and trying to control the future. This leaves very little energy for the present moment – or for healing. Thus, people remain reliant on chemical medicine for their healing.  The problem with this is that if we heal the body, but not the person’s energy, the pain or illness will likely return. How can we reclaim the energy we are losing to maintain the past and control the future – and harness it for healing in the present instead? The Secret to Healing In order to heal ourselves, we must maintain most of our consciouness in present time – not in the past, not in the future, but in the now. Life has a way of bringing us – and our energy – into present time.  Often it is through trauma.  When we find ourselves in the midst of a disaster, have an unexpected accident, or discover that our lives suddenly are in danger, we become very focused on the present moment.  We bring all our consciousness into the now instinctively.  Suddenly, the past does...
